CalmWear provides the perfect dose of sensory input to help calm, soothe and support self-regulation. CalmWear also provides proprioceptive input which is organising and regulating for the nervous system. CalmWear aids in filtering sensory information to improve the ability to listen and learn. Correct sizing is important. Please check our sizing chart. Please ensure the CalmWear logo is worn on the outside of the clothing, so the main stitching is away from the child's skin.

CalmWear Suits (sleeveless or short sleeves) are designed to deter children from accessing their diapers. The suits are also helpful if a child undresses constantly. The specially designed closure makes it difficult for the child to open, while allowing carers to easily open for diaper changing. The CalmWear suit with sleeves is more difficult for the 'Houdini' child to take off.

Calmtex is our special breathable sensory fabric which is used to manufacture CalmWear. It is high quality, wicks away the sweat and is cool and comfortable to wear all year round, in all climates. Calmtex is also popular for children who have trouble regulating their body temperature.

CalmWear Singlets and Shirts provide a gentle 'hug' around the chest, shoulders and torso. This has a calming effect and also provides proprioceptive input which is organising and regulating for the nervous system.

CalmWear long sleeved Shirts work as the short sleeved shirts, and also provide gentle compression to the lower arms.

CalmWear Shorts provide sensory compression, so a child can sit and listen much more easily. They are especially useful for children who 'wriggle' or fall off chairs, or who feel the need to fall to the ground. Children and Adults with ADHD also benefit from wearing CalmWear shorts. CalmWear shorts can also help with body awareness – some have had more positive toilet training experiences.

CalmWear Leggings work as CalmWear Shorts (see above), and also provide gentle compression to the lower legs.

Many children wear a CalmWear compression singlet under their pajamas at night (or a CalmWear shirt with regular pajama pants). Children with sensory difficulties often wake, searching for sensory input – CalmWear can help them settle and stay asleep throughout the night. For children who access their diaper, CalmWear suits have a specially designed closure to deter wandering hands but allow easy access for the carer to change diapers.

Best results are achieved by wearing CalmWear clothing and undergarments all day, every day. Children don't build a resistance to CalmWear clothing, whereas they can only wear weighted clothing for a limited time each day. CalmWear is a popular choice for Occupational Therapists' clients because CalmWear provides calming gentle sensory compression all day, every day.

Almost all children like the feeling of wearing CalmWear immediately, however, some children will take up to a day to get used to the sensation as they aren't accustomed to feeling regulated. CalmWear clothing has special external stitching for a seamless feel and no tags (for children with tactile sensitivity). Children can wear CalmWear under their favourite clothing and school uniform. Once the child is accustomed to wearing CalmWear they may even crave the calming sensation. After washing, please ensure the CalmWear logo is worn on the outside of the clothing, so the main stitching is away from the child's skin.

Use this link to access the CalmWear sizing chart. Correct sizing is important as CalmWear needs to provide sensory compression to the muscles to work effectively. Also, our sizing calculator tool is found under each product detail page.

Accurate sizing is absolutely essential to success with CalmWear. When the correct fit is acquired, progress will be made. The correct size is assured through a measurement of the individual wearer's chest, regardless of their age, or the size of regular clothing. Please checkout our sizing page for more information. You can also use our sizing calculator found under each product detail page.

We, at CalmWear, have been working diligently to ensure all of our families have access to our therapy. Part of our goal is to be able to help all of our families with this new and innovative therapy because we know it works!

The Autism Funding Unit in British Columbia, Canada, has confirmed that as long as there is a letter accompanying a request to pay for CalmWear therapy, they will cover the cost. You provide them with a quote, or an invoice, and send it as you would any other funding request.

As per the Autism Funding Unit, parents are asked to attach a letter stating reasons why your child needs CalmWear therapy. We have created a letter template for you to download to send with your request for payment. You do not need to have an Occupational Therapist sign the request as the therapy is up to the parent to decide.

DOWNLOAD LETTER

All children on the Autism Spectrum are approved for specific therapies, but not all are needed for every single child. This is why the Autism Funding Unit is requesting you let them know why you are asking for CalmWear. We at CalmWear, hope this can be a start to helping our families get the therapy they need.

No. CalmWear's effectiveness comes from the accuracy of the chest measurement. ALL of our garments are made extra long, regardless of the size, to provide sensory compression throughout the entire torso.

Sizing Charts

We have already allowed for the correct amount of gentle sensory compression, so please use the exact chest measurement when deciding on size.

If your measurement is between two sizes, you are best choosing the smaller size. CalmWear needs to provide gentle sensory compression to the muscles, to work effectively.
